Exponent Calculator

aⁿ.

How this calculator works

Computes a^n for real base and exponent.

Negative exponents are reciprocals (a^-n = 1/a^n); fractional exponents are roots (a^(1/n) = ⁿ√a).

Exponents grow numbers far faster than multiplication once the base is above 1, which is the core reason compound interest, population growth, and viral spread all eventually outpace naive linear predictions.

Example

2^10 = 1024.

Frequently asked questions

Zero to the zero?

Conventionally 1 in combinatorics and computing (and this tool). Sometimes left undefined in pure math.

Very large exponents?

Result may overflow to Infinity (>~1.8 × 10^308 in double precision).

What does a fractional exponent like 8^(2/3) mean?

Split it into a root and a power: take the cube root of 8 (which is 2), then square that result, giving 4.
