Cat Age → Human Age

Feline age converter.

How this calculator works

Cats age fast early: year 1 ≈ 15 human, year 2 ≈ +9, then ~4 per year after.

Indoor cats generally live longer than outdoor cats and reach older equivalent 'human' ages.

Unlike dogs, cat aging doesn't vary much by breed size — most domestic cat breeds follow a broadly similar aging curve, making this estimate more universally applicable across breeds than the dog equivalent.

Example

5-year-old cat ≈ 15 + 9 + 3×4 = 36 human years.

Frequently asked questions

Longest-lived cat?

Creme Puff, verified at 38 years — that's over 160 in human equivalents.

When is a cat 'senior'?

Around age 10–11 in real years, roughly 55+ in human equivalent.

Why do indoor cats tend to live longer?

Reduced exposure to traffic, predators, disease, and fights with other animals is the main driver — indoor cats commonly live several years longer on average than cats that spend significant time outdoors.
